Beneath the Wood is a Viva! award-winning vegan sanctuary based in Wales that provides permanent homes for dogs, pigs, sheep, cats and horses. Set up by Sasha Bennett in 2009, the 15-acre site is situated in Ceredigion, nestled in beautiful rolling hills. In 2019 the sanctuary was involved in a high-profile case, rescuing #53 pigs from horrifying conditions at an illegal slaughterhouse in Pembrokeshire. Beneath the Wood now shelters over 135 animals in total and the cost of caring for and feeding so many animals is a huge challenge. The sanctuary also work to rehabilitate dogs with behaviour issues, many of which have been saved from being put to sleep and thrived since arriving at Beneath the Wood. Beneath the Wood also spend time campaigning for a cruelty free world and are a strictly no-kill sanctuary.
