With 90 per cent of the world’s wild fish populations fully-exploited, overexploited or depleted, fish farming is on the rise – but it’s not the solution to overfishing our oceans.
Every year we kill in excess of two trillion wild fish globally – but even this unimaginable number excludes bycatch, illegally caught fish and fish that die in abandoned or discarded fishing gear.
Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic animals, under controlled conditions. More than half the fish on supermarket shelves are reared on intensive fish farms. Viva! has investigated salmon and rainbow trout farming in the UK and found severely overcrowded fish living in dirty water and many salmon covered in parasitic lice.
This great A6 leaflet is brilliant for spreading awareness and taking action. It is perfect for outreach events, used on stalls and door dropping.
